Competition between the two camps of 3D TV standards

Following the confrontation between LCD TVs and plasma TVs, CCFL backlight LCDs and LED backlight LCDs, the battle between the two main schools of 3D TVs will also intensify. Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Haier, Sharp, and Changhong, six color TV manufacturers, joined hands to establish the China 3D Television Promotion Alliance last weekend. The reporter noted that all six companies are "shutter-type" 3D technology camps, and "polarized" 3D. Television production companies did not participate. Insiders pointed out that this move is meaningful, not only for the "polarized" represents the enterprise LG "Shutter 3D TV will exit the market," the counterattack, but also intended to affect the 3D industry standards.

The two camps frequently played against each other. Currently, more than 10 big brands in the mainstream of flat-panel TVs have all launched 3D TVs. After the types and products increase, the war between different technology camps is inevitable.

3D TV can be divided into two types according to different imaging principles. One is active shutter and the other is polarized. It is understood that the current choice of active shutter products is more abundant, on behalf of the company is the alliance of Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Haier, Sharp, Changhong six manufacturers. Polarized camp is led by LG, Konka, TCL, Hisense, Skyworth and other domestic brands have also begun to launch polarized 3D TV.

Since the advent of 3D TV, the dispute between the two factions has never ceased. In recent days, LG’s president, Yingyingshou, has publicly stated that the shuttered 3D TV will exit the market. Interestingly, at the same time, LG recently launched several shutter-type 3D TVs in overseas markets in a low-key manner.

Zhang Nan, the manager of Samsung’s color TV division, previously revealed that Samsung will form a 3D industrial alliance with Sony and Panasonic to develop related standards for 3D products including TVs, Blu-ray players, and movies. “Because these camps are active shutter 3D. TV's loyal fans, shutter-type display will become the mainstream, companies that do not have such a display will be at a disadvantage."

Shuttered 3D TV share will reach 80%

Who will become the mainstream of the two technologies? Liu Quanen, senior engineer of the Third Institute of China Electronics Technology Group, told reporters that the main advantage of the shutter type is that the image quality is better and the resolution is relatively high. “We can achieve what we call high-definition, but The brightness is slightly worse than the polarization type, and the shutter glasses are also expensive."

According to the latest research data from the Consumer Electronics Survey Office of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, the market awareness of 3D TVs has exceeded 80%, and it is expected that the sales of 3D TVs will reach over 30% in 2011, and the share of active shutter 3D TVs will increase. It will reach 80%.

Lu Jiebo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that from the perspective of market share and viewing effect, active shutter 3D TV performance is better than that of polarized light. As the mainstream TV manufacturers continue to promote the popularization of shutter television, this camp will be more and more huge and the development speed will be even faster.

The alliance is intended to influence the national standard. There are reports that the 3D TV industry standard will be introduced in 2011. In response, Zhang Subing, a senior engineer at the China Electronics Standardization Institute, told reporters that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had set up a 3D stereoscopic display standard research group in 2010 and two 3D standards will be introduced this year. Among them, the "three-dimensional television image quality testing method" will be the first to come out, "3D security norms" is also expected to be formally promulgated during the year.

According to the analysis, these enterprises form alliances before the introduction of industry standards in order to be able to take the initiative in terms of influence and quantity, thus affecting the formulation of the 3D standard, and whoever has the 3D standard will benefit the most in the future market.
