Acer says tablet PC is the development direction

January 18 news, according to foreign media reports, Acer sales manager Lu Bing-hsian said on Monday that the company will release two or three tablets in the first half of this year, including a 7-inch display configuration.

Lu Bing-hsian said that Acer's new tablet will gradually replace the company's netbook to meet market demand, "tablet will replace the netbook, tablet PC is the market's development direction."

Lu Bing-hsian said that Acer's new tablet will be equipped with Intel's Sandy Bridge processor, running the Android operating system. The largest Acer tablet is equipped with a 10-inch display.

Acer will continue to produce netbooks, but production will decrease.

Lu Bing-hsian said that Acer Tablet PCs run faster than Windows laptops and have quad-core processors. Acer did not disclose any information on the tablet. But Lu Bing-hsian said that Acer's tablet is aimed at ordinary users, not just gamers.

Lu Bing-hsian did not estimate the price or output of Acer's new tablet. Acer’s first tablet PC with a 12-inch display costs less than US$1,000 and sells 200 to 300 units per month. It stopped production in July last year.
