“I call the dilemma facing Chinese industrial robots a 'three-turns' – the core components are hollow, the applications are low-end, and they are marginalized by the mainstream market.” Qu Daokui said.

This is an embarrassing reality - thousands of Chinese robotics companies can only compete for about 10% of the market. What is even more frustrating is that the core components used by domestic industrial robots are also produced by foreign companies. These core components are mainly "three major pieces" including reducers, servo systems and controllers. The "three major pieces" account for about 70% of the total cost of the robot.

Qu Daokui said that the problem faced by Chinese robotics companies is not whether the "wolves are coming", but whether they can reclaim the territory in the market of "every wolves."

Domestic parts market is difficult to accept

“The controller is Austrian, the motor, reducer and servo system are Japanese. The cost of these foreign core components alone accounts for 60% of the total cost.” Anhui Eft Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. Its robot-related product shipments are among the best in the country, but only about 1,000 a year. About 100 of them use domestic core components, but these products can only be sold to well-connected customers.

“At present, domestic customers are not very accepting the key parts made in China, unless the relationship is particularly good.” Zhang Wei said that although the domestic parts are cheap and there are state subsidies, due to low market acceptance, the whole machine manufacturers are not willing to take risks. try. "The robots are sold for a year and a half without problems, and may be concentrated after three or four years. So we are more cautious."

The key components are difficult for domestic customers to accept, making some robot manufacturers have to take the slant. The robotic arm is one of the most common automation devices in industrial production. The project leader of a robot company told reporters, "Our company will produce the end effector of the robot arm. It mainly performs punching and welding at the end of the arm. The actuator weighs about 60 kg, if it is loaded on the domestic robot arm. The precision will not meet the requirements of punching and welding."

The person in charge of the project said that because foreign companies have not yet mass-produced end-effectors, they hope to find a market breakthrough point here. However, since the end effectors are mostly customized according to the needs of the enterprise, the profit of the single product is high, but it is difficult to achieve large-scale production.

In addition, the absence of industry standards is one of the reasons for the lag in the development of domestic robots. Li Qian, deputy general manager of Suzhou Green's Harmonic Transmission Technology Co., Ltd. told the reporter a story: In 2011, Suzhou Green applied for product inspection to the Jiangsu Provincial Speed ​​Reducer Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. Except for Li Qian’s surprise, there was no industry standard at the quality inspection center at the time, and no standard meant that it could not be evaluated. After consultation, Jiangsu Speed ​​Reducer Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center and Suzhou Green drafted the industry standard for harmonic gear reducer and reported it to the National Standardization Management Committee, which was finally approved and passed the national standard.

"This also shows that the country has seen the development potential of the industry and urgently needs to fill the gaps in the field." Li Qianyu said with pride. Despite this, the company's products have not opened up their popularity in the domestic market. Customers often ask Li Qian whether the green products can reach half of the Japanese similar products. "We are not convinced. I said that you can take down the Japanese products and put them on. However, after three years of development, the annual sales volume of green products has grown from several hundred units in 2012 to 30,000 units this year, and the market share of domestic harmonic reducers exceeds 50%, which makes Li Qian see Hope for marching into the international market.

Multipath seeking breakthrough

At present, under the influence of favorable policies such as “Industrial Manufacturing 2025” and “Robot Industry “13th Five-Year Development Plan”, many robot companies hope to make a difference by policy.
