Another factory in Philips is closed and 58 employees are expected to be affected

According to the foreign media "The Triangle Business Journal", Philips announced that it plans to close the lighting factory in Pergamon, Pendle County, North Carolina, USA. The plant will be officially closed in September 2016 and it is expected that 58 employees will be affected.

The plant is already the second factory closed by Philips in North Carolina, and the company announced the closure of a lighting factory in Henderson five months ago.

“Since the lighting industry continues to change rapidly, Philips must continue to achieve synergies and improve operational efficiency to maintain flexibility and competitiveness,” company spokesman Talley Summerlin wrote in an email. “This is why Philips is gradually stopping production at the Pergamon plant in North Carolina.”

According to the company's notice from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the plant's equipment will be relocated to another US plant in Philips. The company did not disclose the specific factory name.

“As far as practicable, arrange the departure date for employees,” wrote Evira Bisignano, director of human resources at Philips Lighting North America, in a document signed on December 2.

In July, Philips revealed to North Carolina that it would close its factory in Vance County and lay off 50 employees. The plant was acquired by Philips in 2011 through the acquisition of Optimum Lighting, which produces energy-efficient fluorescent lighting fixtures.
