Bo Rui Optoelectronics: the battle against the red powder market

Entering 2012, the penetration of white LED lighting into the lighting market has shown an acceleration trend, which also brings new market opportunities for LED related materials in the entire industrial chain. As one of the key materials, phosphors are receiving more and more attention from enterprises.

According to He Jinhua, the products of Bo Rui Optoelectronics mainly include high-brightness white light LED phosphors, three-color phosphors for plasma display (PDP) and phosphors for cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL). As the company's key business in recent years, the sales of white LED phosphors have increased year by year, and the market share has also increased rapidly, which has become the company's largest source of revenue contribution.

Optimistic about the red powder market

Since 1996, Nichia has declared that the blue LED chip is coated with YAG yellow phosphor to form white light. It has been the mainstream technical solution for commercial white LED. However, as LED lighting requirements for high light efficiency continue to increase, the technical flaws of this solution have become more and more obvious.

"On the one hand, the light conversion efficiency of YAG powder is very low, resulting in low light efficiency of warm white LEDs; on the other hand, due to the relatively weak emission intensity of red light band, the color rendering index is low." He Jinhua believes that YAG powder is Under warm white light conditions, the color rendering index can only reach about 60. Although the color rendering index can reach 70 or more under positive white light conditions, it is still difficult to meet the requirements of general illumination.

As white LEDs accelerate the expansion of indoor general illumination, high-color white LEDs have become an inevitable trend in the future. At present, there are many ways to improve the color rendering index of white LEDs. From the perspective of phosphors, it is one of the effective ways to improve the color rendering index by adding green powder and red powder to supplement the relative intensity of green and red light bands on the basis of existing yellow powder. Therefore, the development of high-performance blue-based excitation-based green powder or red powder is also a hot spot and focus of the domestic and international luminescent materials industry in the past two years.

He Jinhua introduced that Bo Rui Optoelectronics has developed a short-wave emission of yellow-green powder on the aluminate system for the technical requirements of high-color white LEDs for phosphors. The peak wavelength can be reduced to below 530 nm, which is more common in the existing market. The silicate matrix green powder has significant advantages in chemical stability and light conversion efficiency.
