The characteristics of the instrument MCU are divided into the following aspects:

1. Embedded stepper motor PWM controller: can directly control and drive 4-6 stepper motors without external driver IC, so it can save cost and layout space, and has excellent EMI / EMC performance;

2. Embedded LCD controller: 28/32 segment & TImes; 4 common pins, which can directly control the LCD, also without external driver IC, so it can save cost and layout space, and has excellent EMI / EMC performance;

3. High-speed CPU: single instruction cycle, 20 MHz H8S minimum instruction execution time is 50 ns, and 40 MHz H8SX minimum instruction execution time is 25 ns;

4. Powerful timer: On-chip 16-bit timer pulse unit has three 16-bit timer channels, including input capture, output comparison, PWM and phase calculation.

The basic functions of the H8S / 228X special module include three parts: timer pulse unit (TPU); stepper motor PWM controller and LCD controller.

TPU is composed of 3 16-bit timer channels, including up to 8 pulse input / output, which can be set for each channel: compare matching waveform output; input capture function; counter clear operation; synchronous operation; timer counter can Simultaneous writing; can be compared and cleared simultaneously with input capture; using simultaneous counter operation to achieve simultaneous register input / output; maximum 7-phase PWM output combined with synchronous operation.

Stepper motor PWM function includes: maximum 16 pulse outputs, including two 10-bit PWM channels, each channel has 8 outputs, can directly control 4 stepper motors independently; 0% to 100% duty cycle; 5 Operating clock; high-speed access via 16-bit bus interface; two interrupt sources; module stop mode can be set.

For the LCD controller / driver, its important functions are: 28/32 segment & TImes; 4 common pins; segment output pins can be used as 4 groups of port selection for 11 frame rates; A or B waveform can be selected by software; Built-in power supply separation resistor; in addition to standby mode and module stop mode, there is an operation mode display.

Dashboard application solutions

1. Micro stepping motor solution

The micro-stepping motor has low cost and simple structure, but has high reliability, and requires no maintenance and no feedback components. However, resonance effects often occur at low speeds, and torque decreases with increasing speed. Figure 1 shows the internal structure of the VID stepper motor, where the left is the rotor, the middle is the gear, and the right is the motor output.

2. Motor drive mode

The motor drive mode has a step-by-step drive mode and a micro-step drive mode. Figure 2 shows the timing diagram of step-by-step driving. It can be seen that a cycle is composed of six steps. When the pulse sequence is from left to right, the pointer rotates clockwise; otherwise, if the pulse sequence is from right to left, the pointer counterclockwise Direction of rotation. Figure 3 shows the timing diagram of the microstep driving mode, in which the blue line represents the current of the left coil and the red line represents the current of the right coil. A cycle consists of 24 microsteps, and the current waveform on the coil is similar to a sine wave.
