There are insufficient sensors for existing smart cars.

From the perspective of car companies, IT companies and communication companies are now providing a new generation of information technology for the automotive industry, and the technologies of these two types of enterprises will be integrated into the vehicle solutions of car companies to help car companies realize the transformation of services. Upgrades, such as autonomous car services; energy-saving and new energy vehicles, smart cars; different levels of autonomous driving or intelligent networking applications.

Chen Xiaohua said that sensor-based smart car solutions are generally divided into: long-distance identification, human, object, signal mark recognition, medium distance recognition and short-distance recognition. The main sensors include cameras, radar, laser radar, GPS box and other sensors. The function and performance of the sensor at a very fast speed will have very large limitations. For example, a high-altitude self-driving car launched recently has 12 cameras and 8 high-speed radars. However, in the test, the coverage, recognition rate, recognition accuracy and efficient analysis of these sensors for surrounding environment detection are found. There is a certain degree of deficiencies in the maturity of the fusion algorithm around the car.

“There are also very big problems in extreme weather. In heavy rain and heavy snow, some sensors also have a significant decline in performance indicators such as target recognition. And in some cases, visual sensors still have blind spots, such as when overtaking the big car, if the front of the big car There is also a car, visual sensors generally do not see this situation, which will bring great danger; for example, at the intersection, if there are buildings, trees, etc., it will affect the accuracy of the visual sensor; In addition, the identification of the sideways of large box trucks is often misjudged, which leads to the lack of safety of existing sensors," said Chen Xiaohua.

In addition, high-end cameras such as high-definition cameras for automobiles and high-speed radars are not produced in China, and car companies will encounter difficulties in purchasing.

Chen Xiaohua believes that intelligent networked V2X technology can make up for these deficiencies to some extent.

The role of intelligent networked V2X technology

Currently, communication-based V2X is slowly embedded in the entire vehicle industry chain and value chain. Communication technology is one of the key enabling technologies for intelligent networked vehicles. The communication technology for intelligent network-related automotive related applications has also achieved milestones. In September 2016, 3GPP completed the first version of LTE-V2V communication technology. Standard setting. But what is the demand for V2X for vehicle manufacturers? Chen Xiaohua believes that it is important to understand this issue for targeted research and development. He believes that V2X can have six roles in a smart car.

The first is the pipeline role.

V2X is the channel for the car body to interact with the external environment, including information exchange between the car and the car, between the car and the car, between the car and the infrastructure, and between the car and the background. The V2X can also analyze and process the transmitted data. I hope to be able to use this data. For example, some information on the vehicle side can be customized to the driver.

The second is the security role.

On the one hand, it compensates for the defects that the sensor safety function is easy to fail, and on the other hand provides safety information directly to the vehicle and the driver. Embedding the V2X into the car can play a role in some security applications, such as forward collision warning, intersection warning, vehicle blind zone warning, lane change warning, emergency brake warning, left turn assist, vehicle out of control warning, red light warning, etc. Some security-related scenarios, such as news, weather, congestion guidance, community information alerts, priority vehicle access, and car near-field payments, can also play a role. It should be said that the current V2X equipment is mainly used as a supplement to the intelligent network connection security function and performance, and may not be an alternative relationship. If V2X is to replace the existing sensor, the auto company will not accept this view. Chen Xiaohua emphasized this point.

The third is to enhance the role of traffic efficiency.

V2X can play a role in vehicle and road coordination, green wave belts on the side of traffic roads, traffic guidance, dynamic parking around, and traffic announcements.

The fourth is the role of wisdom.

At the Wuxi IoT Conference, the most mentioned are smart communities and smart cities. The main node is smart cars. If smart driving is combined with V2X, it can be more comprehensive for external perception, car and road information sharing, and deep learning. Be smarter. The vehicle and the transportation infrastructure can communicate with each other (V2I), and the vehicle road coordination and traffic scheduling accuracy can be higher, and even the traffic lights can be cancelled.

The fifth is to provide driving care.

This year, automakers, including BAIC, are using new technologies for R&D to provide drivers with intelligent information-based vehicle information. According to Chen Xiaohua, the overall development strategy of BAIC's V2X technology is to start with the definition of application scenarios, then to define intelligent interconnection functions, scenario logic strategies, find efficient development models, technology and integration verification, and formulate enterprise-level application specifications and standards. Then to achieve smart interconnection products. "We have been testing the relevant scenes since July, we will do system stability testing throughout 2017, and we will fully deploy them on our products in 2018. This year we plan to complete 10 scenarios on V2X. 22 V2X application scenarios will be completed next year, which is a few more than the 17 V2X scenarios defined in the US."

Challenges and confusion of independent research and development of car companies

Chen Xiaohua said that there are some challenges in the development of intelligent network technology. First, the target is not unified, the customer perception of intelligent networked technology is relatively independent, and there is no systematic coordination in the whole vehicle product. Second, when developing intelligent network connection technology, the functional performance of the subsystem is overemphasized, and the application scenario is ignored. The general demand; the third is that the ratio of system cost to the total vehicle price does not match. Because a large number of core components are imported, the system cost is uncontrollable. Fourth, the intelligent networked subsystem must meet the vehicle-level reliability and must be strict. And the long-term performance verification can mature, and it is seriously lacking at present; the fifth is the lack of systematic product innovation and technological breakthrough; the sixth is the lack of unification of intelligent network connection technology evaluation, integration in the whole vehicle, and application of the whole vehicle. When developing V2X technology, car companies also encountered some difficulties. First, the R&D cost is high, the input pressure is high, and the car companies want to establish a research team for the Internet of Vehicles, but the IT industry is two to three times higher than the auto industry; the second is weak integration and verification, lack of talent; the third is the lack of complete The technical system has less cooperation and needs to build a research and development, application and testing system for new technologies.
