A Brief Analysis of Altera's Typical Vehicle Gateway Controller System

Electronic enthusiast network news : car gateway controller is the router between the different electronic and optical bus in the car. It is used to integrate standard multimedia interfaces such as Universal Serial Bus (USB), Firewire and Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) interfaces, as well as Controller Area Network (CAN) interfaces that can be connected to the body control network. Various computer-related interfaces, such as Ethernet interfaces and Bluetooth, may also be required in the future development of automotive systems. In some applications, a car PC also needs to control media devices such as flash and CD-ROM drives. In order to be able to complete the routing control function of the gateway, it is necessary to use a small CPU. The gateway controller is likely to be independent of the on-board PC, allowing it to support different interfaces so that the in-vehicle system can communicate with different buses used by different manufacturers.

Figure 1 depicts a typical vehicle gateway controller system. Altera's low-cost CycloneTM programmable logic family is ideal for bridging between different bus systems. With Cyclone devices, designers can connect to specific bus systems using standard low-cost ASSPs. With this advantage, designers can also customize their systems to interface with bus systems used by different manufacturers, increasing system usage and significantly reducing development costs. For system vendors, using Cyclone devices means that their designers only need to develop one system, which greatly simplifies the development process.

The various interfaces shown in Figure 1 are IP cores provided by Altera or Altera MegafuncTIon Partner Program (AMPPSM) partners. The ideal CPU for this system is the 32-bit Nios® II RISCC embedded processor. With SOPC Builder, designers can quickly integrate a Nios processor and a flexible bus system of various IPs on a single device. Cyclone devices play a low-cost platform role in such high-volume applications.

High Current Terminal Blocks

The JUK universal Screw Terminal Block series has the typical features which are decisive for practical applications:

l The universal foot allows the terminal blocks to be easily snapped onto the NS35 or NS32 DIN Rail with G shape.

l Closed screw guide holes ensure screwdriver operation perfect.

l For terminal block with different wire cross-sectional areas, complete accessories are available, such as end plates, partition plates, etc.

l Potential distribution achieved by fixed bridges in the terminal center or insertion bridges in the clamping space.

l Same shape and pitch Grounding Terminal Blocks as the JUK universal series.

l Adopt ZB marker strip system, achieve unified identification.
