Nine Dragons NPE will provide developers in a variety of industries, including mobile, automotive, healthcare, security and imaging, with the tools they need to implement a neural network-driven user experience on the terminal side. Developers can take advantage of deep learning user experiences such as style transitions and filters (augmented reality applications), scene detection, facial recognition, natural language understanding, object tracking and evasion, gestures and text recognition.

Developers have begun using Snapdragon NPE to leverage the capabilities of Snapdragon to support the mobile app experience. For example, Facebook has announced plans to integrate Opteron NPE into the camera functionality of Facebook applications to facilitate the implementation of augmented reality (AR) features supported by Caffe2. Compared to the general CPU implementation, Facebook can use Snapdragon NPE to achieve a 5x performance improvement based on Adreno GPU, enabling smoother, seamless and realistic AR features when taking photos and live video.

Snapdragon NPE is compatible with the Snapdragon 600 and 800 series mobile platforms, supporting common deep learning frameworks such as Caffe, Caffe2 and Tensorflow, and provides support for custom layers. The SDK includes runtime software, libraries, APIs, offline model conversion tools, sample code, documentation, and debugging and benchmarking tools.
