• Use CyboMax's soft-sensing technology to detect steam quality and control steam quality. • On-line monitoring of steam quality in the furnace ensures the stability of steam quality and further increases crude oil production. • Use MFA to control the steam quality, temperature and pressure, and control the combustion according to the best air-fuel ratio. • Improves the combustion efficiency of the furnace while increasing steam production and crude oil production. • Easy to install and commission. • Through energy savings, you can recover your costs within a year (you can also increase production).

Oilfield steam injection boiler MFA control and optimization case

Process: Crude oils with lower viscosity can be easily obtained using natural pressure. However, crude oils with higher viscosity need to be extracted by special processes such as steam injection extraction. After high-pressure steam is injected into the crude oil pool, the steam and the hot water produced can reduce the viscosity of the crude oil and allow it to flow into the crude oil pool, which is then pumped to the surface.

Difficulties in control: High-pressure steam is produced by a special steam boiler. It is difficult to monitor and control the steam quality indicator - steam quality. The optimum steam dryness for extracting crude oil is 72%. If it is too high, it will waste energy; if it is too low, steam will not have enough energy to dissolve crude oil.

Steam Dryness: Normally, steam dryness is obtained by manually measuring the acid value of boiler feed water and condensate water. Due to the inconsistency and uncertainty of the manual measurement, the management of the steam injection quality is very extensive, resulting in the waste of energy and unstable injection quality. Moreover, discrete manual measurements do not provide real-time data for automatic control of steam quality.

Goal: In order to effectively obtain maximum crude oil production, it is desirable to achieve automatic detection and control of steam dryness.

Solution: CyboSoft has developed a rigorous solution for the measurement and control of steam quality. With our unique soft measurement technology, real-time steam dryness can be calculated. A model-free adaptive (MFA) controller is used to automatically control steam pressure, temperature, dryness, and feedwater flow. It can ensure the effective and stable operation of the boiler.

MFA control: In order to control the dryness and important process variables, a multivariable MFA control system is adopted to automatically adjust the ratio of air and fuel to improve the combustion efficiency.

Application example: CNPC has installed a multivariable MFA control and optimization system on the steam injection boiler in Liaohe Oilfield. And has passed the appraisal confirmed the following results:
• The boiler's combustion efficiency increased by 3-4%.
• Save 17.6% on electricity.
• Steam dryness measurement accuracy is ±1%.
• In all conditions, steam quality is controlled within ±3% of the set value.
• Increased production safety and production.
