From December 22 to 23, the State Grid Corporation of China organized a (pre-) preliminary design review meeting for the Hami-Zhengzhou ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project in Beijing. It is reported that the Hami-Zhengzhou DC transmission project is the world’s first ±800 kV DC transmission project with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts, with a length of 2210.2 kilometers. The project is planned to be put into operation in 2013 at the low end of the two poles and completed in the first half of 2014.

The meeting comprehensively and meticulously reviewed the design technical scheme for the converter station and the line of the project, which is of great significance for guiding the follow-up design and construction of the project and achieving a good and fast progress of the project. The company's deputy general manager and party member Zheng Baosen attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

Zheng Baosen said that the construction of the Hami-Zhengzhou DC transmission project will send the coal and wind power resources in the Hami region of Xinjiang to the load center area in Henan, and the advantages of the resources in the west will be transformed into economic advantages. This is the implementation of the scientific development concept and implementation of the “One Special Four” development strategy. The major measures to take the road of sustainable development are of great significance to safeguarding the long-term stability of ethnic minority areas in Xinjiang, and promoting the implementation of regional development strategies such as "Western Development" and "Central China Rising".

At present, the company has organized the (pre-) preliminary design of the converter station and the line. After this review meeting, the follow-up study and the initial technology collection will be completed as soon as possible, and the construction drawing design will be accelerated.
