The intelligent power module IPM (Intelligent Power Module) inside the servo amplifier contains fault detection circuits such as overvoltage, overcurrent and overheat. Therefore, when the motor drive load is in acceleration or deceleration, the output torque of the motor is greater than the rated torque of the motor. After a short period of time, the amplifier will have an overload alarm.

The following is an example of controlling the MR-J2S servo amplifier with the positioning module QD75.

The motor speed No in Fig. 3 corresponds to the speed command (Command speed) in Fig. 1, and the acceleration/deceleration times tpsa and tpsd correspond to the actual acceleration/deceleration time in Fig. 4. Knowing the load inertia and the motor inertia, the acceleration and deceleration torques Ta and Tb can be calculated. It is shown in Figure 3.

Compared with the output torque of acceleration and deceleration, the output torque of the motor driving the load during operation is the smallest, expressed by TL. This value can be monitored by the servo setting software on the monitoring servo motor output torque curve. Then, from Fig. 5, the output torques T1, T2 and T3 of the motor during acceleration, running and deceleration can be calculated.

The servo amplifier will have an overload alarm in the following two cases.

1. T1, T2 and T3 consist of a maximum output torque exceeding the servo motor

2. T1, T2 and T3 are greater than the rated output torque of the servo power, but less than the maximum output torque, and run for a period of time

Taking MR-J2S-10A~MR-J2S-100A overload protection characteristic diagram as an example, when the servo electric output torque is 200% rated torque, as shown above, the IPM in the servo amplifier will be overheated after the motor runs for about 100s. An overload alarm occurs.

The above explains the cause of the overload alarm, so the alarm can be eliminated by reducing the running speed or increasing the acceleration/deceleration time.
