At the recent Hong Kong Lighting Fair, NXP exhibited the new SSL3401 dimmable single-level controller IC for improving MR16 LEDs using 12V AC mains. The SSL3401 is compatible with a wide range of dimmers and transformers – for the most common combination of over 80% – in a compact form factor. Energy-conscious consumers and businesses around the world want to replace halogen lamps with LEDs, but with dimmable MR16 LEDs, smooth use may not be guaranteed. In the SSL3401, NXP has designed a compact single-stage controller IC specifically for dimmable MR16 LED lamps and has been extensively tested to accommodate a wide range of dimmers and transformers.

Main features of the product:

  • Compatible with a wide range of dimmers and transformers, the SSL3401 is available in a compact form factor for most common MR16 GU5.3 and AR111 housings and jacks.
  • The SSL3401 supports ambient temperatures up to 105oC and provides temperature drop protection.
  • Based on NXP's GreenChip technology, the SSL3401 generates stable, accurate currents and has a dimming capability of less than 5% of the light output in the most common practical operations.
  • A typical 7W MR16 LED lamp using the SSL3401 achieves less than 15% total harmonic distortion (THD), a power factor above 0.9, an efficiency of up to 78%, and an LED ripple current of less than ±10%.
